Velorest is a bike care range, not a car product

Velorest sits within the Dutch Performance Products range as a bike-specific line for cleaning, protecting, and lubricating bicycles, including city bikes and e-bikes. It is not a fuel additive, oil additive, engine cleaner, or car shampoo, and it has no function in engines, fuel systems, or car drivetrains. If you searched for Velorest expecting a fuel additive or engine treatment, this is not the right product line. For fuel additives, engine cleaners, and oil treatments, DPP has separate car additive and car cleaning ranges.

Which Velorest product do you need?

Match your situation to the right product or bundle before you start:

• Dirty frame after a ride (casual or city rider): Velorest Bike Cleaner 500ml. If you also want accessories such as cloths and a brush, the Velorest Bike Clean Bundle includes both.
• Black, sticky chain before re-lubing (any rider): Velorest Chain Cleaner 500ml. The Velorest Chain Care Bundle combines the cleaner with lube and accessories if you want the full drivetrain kit in one go.
• Chain needs lubrication for wet or mixed conditions: Velorest Chain Lube Wet 100ml.
• Complete maintenance from scratch, nothing in the cupboard (starter kit or gift): Velorest Total Bundle, which covers frame cleaning, drivetrain cleaning, lubrication, protection, and accessories in one set.
• Glass surfaces such as an e-bike display or helmet visor: Velorest Glass Cleaner 500ml with the Velorest Glass Towel.

How often should you clean and lubricate your chain?

How often you clean your chain depends on how and where you ride.

• Casual or city rider: clean when the chain looks visibly black or sticky, roughly every few hundred kilometres or after wet rides. Use Velorest Chain Cleaner on the drivetrain at that point.
• Daily commuter riding in bad weather: clean and degrease the drivetrain after most muddy or rainy rides.
• Road or gravel rider: clean and degrease regularly, or sooner after particularly dirty rides.

Choose your lubricant based on the conditions you ride in.

Always clean the chain first and let it dry before applying fresh lube. Applying lubricant to a dirty chain traps contamination and accelerates wear rather than reducing it.

Is Velorest safe on carbon, e-bikes, and all bike types?

Velorest products are designed for modern bicycles, but a few usage rules keep them safe and effective.

Do:

• Use Bike Cleaner on painted alloy, carbon, and anodised frames of city bikes, e-bikes, road bikes, and MTBs.
• Use Chain Cleaner on steel chains, cassettes, chainrings, and derailleur pulleys.
• Use Velorest products on e-bikes as you would on a regular bike, keeping all products away from electrical contacts and battery ports.
• Wipe off excess chain lube after application so it does not drip onto other components.
• Note that products are generally safe for common plastics and rubber parts when used as directed.

Do not:

• Apply chain cleaner, chain lube, or Bike Protector near brake rotors, rim braking surfaces, or brake pads. Contamination on braking surfaces reduces stopping power and may require pad or disc replacement before the bike is safe to ride.
• Use Bike Cleaner as a substitute for car shampoo on automotive paintwork.
• Use Velorest products on motorcycle chains or industrial machinery.
• Spray protector products directly onto matte lacquer. On matte frames, test Bike Protector on a small, inconspicuous area first to check that the finish stays matte.

When does your bike need a mechanic, not a cleaning product?

Velorest products clean and lubricate; they do not repair worn or damaged parts. These are signals that your bike needs a mechanic rather than more cleaning product:

• The chain skips under load even after cleaning and fresh lubricant.
• Cassette or chainring teeth look hook-shaped or sharply pointed.
• Brakes feel weak or noisy even after you have cleaned the rotors or rims and kept lube away from them.
• Hubs, the bottom bracket, or the headset feel rough, gritty, or have noticeable play when you rock the wheels or cranks.
• You can see cracks, dents, or other structural damage on the frame or fork.

If these symptoms remain after a proper clean and fresh lube, the cause is mechanical, and a bike mechanic is the right next step.
