Fault code P2463 indicates excessive soot accumulation in the diesel particulate filter, also known as the DPF. This often occurs in vehicles that mainly drive short distances, preventing the filter from regenerating properly.
With P2463 VW, the fault is often seen in the Volkswagen Passat, Golf and Transporter T6, usually due to a clogged diesel particulate filter or a defective pressure sensor.
With P2463 Mercedes, the fault regularly occurs in the Mercedes Sprinter and C-Class diesel models, where incomplete regeneration or a poorly functioning temperature sensor is often the cause.
Ford P2463 is also common in the Ford Transit and Kuga TDCi, where the issue usually lies with a clogged DPF or an error in the filter’s air pressure measurement.
You can try to solve P2463 with an additive by adding a dedicated DPF cleaning product, such as DPF Cleaner or Total Care Diesel. These additives help raise the temperature inside the filter, allowing accumulated soot to burn off and restoring flow through the filter.
After adding the product, it is recommended to drive for at least 20 minutes at a higher speed and engine speed, so the regeneration cycle can be completed.
If the warning keeps returning, professional DPF cleaning or diagnosis at a garage is needed to prevent further damage to the diesel particulate filter or exhaust system.
