Which coolant is suitable for your car?
Your car’s owner’s manual is always the leading reference. If it specifies G12, G12+ or VW TL 774 D/F, Lindemann Coolant G12+ Ready Use is suitable. The coolant is premixed and does not need to be diluted with water.
G12+ is a long-life coolant based on OAT technology. It protects the cooling system against freezing, overheating, corrosion, deposits and foaming. The coolant is also suitable for cooling systems containing aluminium components.
Red or pink coolant
G12 and G12+ coolants are usually red or pink. However, the colour alone does not provide enough information about the composition. Two coolants of the same colour may have different specifications. Always check the owner’s manual and the specifications stated on the packaging.
If you do not know which coolant is already in the system, do not mix different products without checking their compatibility. If in doubt, have the system inspected or the coolant completely replaced.
Protection against freezing and overheating
This ready-to-use coolant provides protection down to -38°C. This makes it suitable for winter conditions and comparable to products commonly described as coolant with protection down to -40°C.
Coolant is also important during summer. It helps transfer heat away from the engine and prevents overheating. Do not add extra water, as this will reduce the level of protection.
How to top up coolant safely
Only check or top up the coolant when the engine has completely cooled down. Never open the expansion tank while the engine is hot, as the cooling system will be pressurised.
Slowly add coolant until the level is between the MIN and MAX markings. If the level drops again or you regularly need to top it up, have the cooling system checked for leaks. Coolant cannot repair a technical fault such as a leaking hose, defective water pump or damaged gasket.
Before purchasing, always verify that G12, G12+ or one of the stated specifications is prescribed for your vehicle.
